When questioned by the Tribune, the principal of the school, Chris Jenson, asserted that students were allowed to interpret the assignment how they saw fit, and could hang out with a friend rather than go on a date if they wanted (though Oxborrow's daughter, Lucy Mulligan, contests that claim).
